APOLOGIES FROM ROAD RUNNING COMMISSION TO ALL AGN CLUBS

Members

As the Chairman of Road Running commission I first would like to apologize for the manner in which the AGN half marathon championship was organized at TUKS on Saturday. The Road Running commission was not aware that TUKS race was a championship race. When I took over as the new chairman of Road running, I was not briefed about any outstanding issues or coming events. The fliers for the race were not approved by the commission or the Office.

I would like to assure you that a thing like this will not happen again as long as I am the chairman of road running. Please feel free to contact me or the office with any road running issues that you know so that we as the commission can address and deal with them.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Regards

Dukes Mokonoto
(Chairman Road Running Commission)

2010 COMRADES MARATHON

Qualifying period for 2010 will be as follows: 24 May 2009 to 26 April 2010.

Runners who finished the 2009 Comrades Marathon can use their finishing time as a qualifier for 2010. As in 2009, runners will be able to enter before they qualify. This means while all entries will have to meet the entry criteria above, runners will still be allowed to qualify in official qualifying races up until the month of April 2010, with the 26th April 2010 as the final cut-off date. Upon qualification, runners simply need to submit the time and details of the qualifying race through to the CMA office. Upon receiving the qualifying information the runner’s entry will be confirmed.

Licenses for 2010 (for South African athletes only)

With the new opening and closing dates of entries for Comrades 2010, athletes will not be in possession of their 2010 licenses by the time of entry, however athletes will still have to comply with the rule that they must be licensed through an officially registered athletics club affiliated to Athletics South Africa in order to run the 2010 Comrades Marathon. As with the new qualifying criteria, you will be able to enter for Comrades 2010 before having received your 2010 license. You will however have to submit your club name and license number to the CMA before or by the 26th April. Failure to submit these details will result in your entry being rejected. Please note that the CMA will verify your license details with your club.

Thanks

AGN ROAD RUNNING & WALKING LEAGUE SECTION

Newest LEAGUE information will be added at the top of this section, from now on -

i.e. just below here.

Hi

For the benefit of all those that are new to participating in league races … both running and walking … there are some important points that you should be aware of when entering a
league race.

  1. The league races only apply to Athletics Gauteng North … Agn. It does not apply to Central Gauteng Athletics … CGA.

When doing the league calculation I start off by doing a sort on the 'Prov'. If you therefore fill in the ‘Prov’ section with Gauteng or GP or G or leave the ‘Prov’ section blank you will be deleted from the league calculation unless someone from the club emails me that you are in fact a registered Agn athlete.

This rule applies to every Agn athlete and not only to some who happen to be members of a club with a sister club with the same club name in another province.

  1. If you don’t fill in your gender or sex you will default to “Male’
  1. If you do not fill in your age you will default to ‘Senior’

I'd like to email the logs out Friday morning ... early. So could I set the deadline for corrections to reach me by Thursday evening.

God Bless
Ken

Partial Walking League results after the 2010 Deloitte race.

******************************************************

Hi

It will be a miracle if I have managed to get all the corrections and changes into the McCarthy Toyota league calculation without a few slip-ups on my part. But that's that and it's finished.

One thing I am pleased about is that I did give clubs an opportunity to check the number of licences bought from Agn as at the end of Jan. Only Hqh came back and had Agn correct their figure. So for those clubs that had not bought any licences as at the end of Jan ... even though your athletes earned individual points in the McCarthy Toyota league race ... you did not earn any league points because the number of licences bought as at the end of the month prior to the league race, is part of the handicap calculation..

Clubs that did not email me that their athletes who failed to fill 'Prov' when they entered, were registered Agn athletes, were deleted from the league calculation.

Although the McCarthy Toyota results were the cause of a way above average number of queries and corrections I must thank the many clubs for putting in the time and effort to sort out and query the results with regard to their own club, to Hank Bezuidenhout who made an effort to sort out the problems that were refered to him and then finally to Magaret Chamberlain for making all the changes and corrections on 'raceresults'

God Bless
Ken

Hi

League race organisers please take note ... below is a comment from Haffie who sent the Ace 10km results through to me.

N.B: There was no column for “ages”, only a column for “category”
“Category” could have meant:
-          WALK or RUN
-          MALE or FEMALE
-          VET, MASTER, GRANDMASTER . etc
This is some of the information that was filled in on the stickers.

An example of the 21km results as received by me from Chamberlains:

1064 K HLATSHWAYO RESBANK AGN F 02:58:20
1065 B JARMEY-SWAN NATAL CARBINEERS KZN     G M      M 02:58:21
1066 G FOURIE FIT 2000 AGN     V M 02:58:45
1067 M VAN DYK IRENE AGN     G M      F 02:59:16
1068 J JORDAAN MAGNOLIA AGN     G GM     M 02:59:52
1069 P MILLS TEMP   M 02:59:55
1070 P VISAGIE TRANSNET AGN     G M      M 03:01:00

From the partial results that are attached you will see that 'Prov' is still a major problem. Gauteng / Gaut / GP / G and nothing filled in the 'Prov' column will result in that athlete being deleted from the league calculation unless you email me to the effect that the athlete is from Agn. This ruling applies to all Agn club athletes and not to just some who happen to belong to clubs who have sister clubs in other provinces.

Unless corrected the following defaults for league points will apply.
No age ... default senior
No sex ... default male
Prov ... Gauteng, Gaut, GP, G or blank ... delete from league calculation
Unless there is some form of standardisation with the entry slip / form, I dont think we can blame the athletes for being confused. Three months before a league race I send out the following list of minimum requirements to the organising club but I somehow don't think that it always reaches the race organising committee.

Please ensure that your set of results comply with the following minimum requirements:

  1. Excel spreadsheet
  2. Initials and name
  3. Club
  4. Age    (the league does not have sub vets or juniors, also some athletes are entering the wrong age category)
  5. Province        (several of the Agn clubs have sister clubs in other provinces. Eg Fit 2000, Harmony, Run and Walk for Life … )
  6. If your race is also a Race Walking League Race then a separate set of results for the walkers or alternatively a separate column is required to indicate whether the athlete entered to “R” or “W”
  7. Time in the following format          “format”   “cells”   “custom”   “hh:mm:ss”

Just a suggestion from me ... League race organisers please look at the design of your entry form / slip. If you can have a tick block for 'Run' and another tick block for 'Walk', is it not possible to do the same for "prov" ... tick block for 'Agn' another for 'Cga' and another tick block for 'Other'. The reason I've suggested 3 tick blocks is that there is always a large number of Cga athletes who enter our races and there is always some who enter their province as Agn, so 3 tick blocks will hopefully eliminate an area of potential confusion for Gauteng athletes.

God Bless
Ken
