Colleagues

Please take note that the Event Section (Metro Police) WILL NOT approve “public” events from the period 01 June 2010 – 15 July 2010 due to the 2010 FWC and prioritization of resources ensuring the successful running of the 2010 FWC event as well as executing our day-to-day policing tasks within the City of Tshwane.  Only approved City events related to the 2010 FWC as well as applicable parallel events will be allowed and policed.

This decision was endorsed by our management as well as the ProvJoints(as SAPS also do not have additional resources).

Please communicate this to all relevant parties ASAP.

PS! Our communication section should also inform other applicable departments / divisions within council.

RACE WALKING

******************************************************

Dear club chairmen, coaches and athletes,

The attached list contains the names of walkers that were identified

by the walkers sub committee as possible candidates for inclusion in the

AGN team to the South African road walking championships and inter

provincial competition planned for October in Oudshoorn.

Race distances vary from 10km to 50km. All age categories are catered

for from youth development to masters 80 plus.

We request that you inform the athletes from your clubs about our

plans, and also provide Gerard van den Raad names of athletes that might

have been overlooked, but do have the potential to perform up to standard.

The names in the list were taken from those that competed in the firs 3

league races of 2010, as well as those who represented AGN at the

various national championships events in 2010. Please also communicate to

Gerard the availability of these athletes for possible AGN representation.

Walkers are encouraged to compete in the remaining AGN league

races so that their performance can be monitored. The team will be

finalized after the 10km road walking championships at Zwartkop

on 04 September.

Regards.

Gerard van den Raad.

AGN walkers representative.

AGN ROAD RUNNING & WALKING LEAGUE SECTION

Newest LEAGUE information will be added at the top of this section, from now on -

i.e. just below here.

Hi

Where oh where have all the walkers gone? ... was it maybe the cold? ... they were few and far between. Look how the walker's numbers have dropped over the 4 league races held so far this year.

Geo Claassen - 200      Deloitte - 185      Denel - 128      Aminostim - 62

There must be a reason for such a drastic fall off. It might be interesting to get some sort of feedback from those walkers who didn't turn up for what was a well organised race in a lovely area.

God Bless
Ken

Hi

Some observations on the various leagues after 3 league races in 2010:

Running League:

Div 1:

Surprise club this year is Overkruin. Last year they finished 9th and at the moment they are top of Div 1 (56pts). Up from 5th in 2009 is Pmmc (53pts). In the relegation zone is Harlequins

Div 2:

After finishing top of Div 3 in 2009 Bmw are already in a comfortable lead in Div 2, five points clear of 2nd placed Mazda (54pts). Faranani (9.5pts) and Varsity Sport (2pts) are in the relegation zone.

Div 3:

Corr Serv (116.5) and Fsb (114.5) have already established a clear lead in this division.

Super League

Male Super League:

This is interesting ... only 2 points separate the top 4 clubs. New Balance (146pts) Pmmc (145pts) Nedbank (144pts) and Irene (144pts)

Female Super League:

This is developing into a two horse race with Irene (149pts) one point in front of Nedbank (148pts)

Hi

League race organisers please take note ... below is a comment from Haffie who sent the Ace 10km results through to me.

N.B: There was no column for “ages”, only a column for “category”
“Category” could have meant:
-          WALK or RUN
-          MALE or FEMALE
-          VET, MASTER, GRANDMASTER . etc
This is some of the information that was filled in on the stickers.

An example of the 21km results as received by me from Chamberlains:

1064 K HLATSHWAYO RESBANK AGN F 02:58:20
1065 B JARMEY-SWAN NATAL CARBINEERS KZN     G M      M 02:58:21
1066 G FOURIE FIT 2000 AGN     V M 02:58:45
1067 M VAN DYK IRENE AGN     G M      F 02:59:16
1068 J JORDAAN MAGNOLIA AGN     G GM     M 02:59:52
1069 P MILLS TEMP   M 02:59:55
1070 P VISAGIE TRANSNET AGN     G M      M 03:01:00

From the partial results that are attached you will see that 'Prov' is still a major problem. Gauteng / Gaut / GP / G and nothing filled in the 'Prov' column will result in that athlete being deleted from the league calculation unless you email me to the effect that the athlete is from Agn. This ruling applies to all Agn club athletes and not to just some who happen to belong to clubs who have sister clubs in other provinces.

Unless corrected the following defaults for league points will apply.
No age ... default senior
No sex ... default male
Prov ... Gauteng, Gaut, GP, G or blank ... delete from league calculation
Unless there is some form of standardisation with the entry slip / form, I dont think we can blame the athletes for being confused. Three months before a league race I send out the following list of minimum requirements to the organising club but I somehow don't think that it always reaches the race organising committee.

Please ensure that your set of results comply with the following minimum requirements:

  1. Excel spreadsheet
  2. Initials and name
  3. Club
  4. Age    (the league does not have sub vets or juniors, also some athletes are entering the wrong age category)
  5. Province        (several of the Agn clubs have sister clubs in other provinces. Eg Fit 2000, Harmony, Run and Walk for Life … )
  6. If your race is also a Race Walking League Race then a separate set of results for the walkers or alternatively a separate column is required to indicate whether the athlete entered to “R” or “W”
  7. Time in the following format          “format”   “cells”   “custom”   “hh:mm:ss”

Just a suggestion from me ... League race organisers please look at the design of your entry form / slip. If you can have a tick block for 'Run' and another tick block for 'Walk', is it not possible to do the same for "prov" ... tick block for 'Agn' another for 'Cga' and another tick block for 'Other'. The reason I've suggested 3 tick blocks is that there is always a large number of Cga athletes who enter our races and there is always some who enter their province as Agn, so 3 tick blocks will hopefully eliminate an area of potential confusion for Gauteng athletes.

God Bless
Ken

AGN CROSS COUNTRY SECTION

Newest information will be added at the top of this section, from now on -

i.e. just below here.

Hi Cross Country friends,

It is evident that our athletes are eager to use the extended July holiday to prepare themselves for the National championships. We have had so many requests for cross country events during the July holiday, that we were able to organise three more events, leading up to the Inter Provincial at Klerkdorp on 10 July 2010.

These events include:

·         Pretoria Botanical Gardens on Saturday, 12 June 2010 12:30

·         Hatfield Christian School on Saturday, 19 June 2010 at 12:30

·         Eldoraigne High School on Saturday, 26 June 2010 at 12:30

Athletes need to take part in any two of the four events (Polokwane Inter Provincial -29 May 2010, Botanical Gardens - 12 June, Hatfield CS - 19 June or Eldoraigne - 26 June) to qualify for the team to Klerksdorp.

This event will be attended by Gauteng North, Central North West, North West North, Limpopo and Mpumalanga)

I would like to thank the athletes and parents who attended the Inter Provincial al Polokwane last weekend despite the rugby and the flu. I am very proud of the Gauteng North team and the performances of our athletes. Seems the AGN team is stronger than ever, but Limpopo has become a force to be reckoned with as far as cross country is concerned. 785 athletes attended the event.

We would also like to thank our hosts, Limpopo Athletics and in particular, Marius Wilters and his team for a great event. Thank you also to all the parents and athletes for all you positive feedback. Results attached.

Pretoria Botanical Gardens, Saturday 12 June 2010

The event at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens starts at 12:30.

The Pretoria Botanical Garden is home to more than 198 bird species and a number of reptiles and small mammals such as the common Duiker. It has special collections of medicinal plants, cycads, aloes, tree species, succulents and natural ridge vegetation.

The green lawns and spreading shade trees of this spectacular garden promises one of the best cross country tracks ever!

Entry Fee R 15.00. Because it is open to public, however, spectators will unfortunately also have to pay to enter the grounds. However, I am sure it will be well worth your money if you bring along your picnic baskets and enjoy the day with your family and club mates. The proceeds of the event will go to the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is responsible for exploring, revealing, celebrating and championing biodiversity for the benefit and enjoyment of all of South Africa’s people.

Registration will take place in front of the main entrance.

The Botanical Gardens is in Cussonia Drive, Brummeria in Pretoria.

Run-Away Sport and New Balance will again be the main sponsors for this event. Run-away sport has now moved into a slightly bigger shop right next to where the old shop was. You will be pleasantly surprised to see the new modernised shop. Please support them like they support our sport. You can be sure to receive the best deal in town if you mention that you are part of Gauteng North Cross Country.
