Road Running & Walking: Events - Walking League 2007

Road Walking Rules

  • A walker must retain contact with the ground at all times, i.e. no “lifting” is allowed.
  • Any walker whose action looks suspect will be given a caution.
  • A competitor will automatically be disqualified after the third caution.
  • A judge may immediately disqualify a walker without caution for blatant running.
  • The back leg should fully extend and the knee should be locked before the next step.
  • Any walker whose knees are covered will not be considered for prizes. The only exception to this rule is that in very cold weather judges will accept tight-fitting “Lycra” leggings.
  • A walker must wear the “W” identification both on the front and back of the vest. Walkers not wearing the identification in running events will be regarded as runners.

How the AGN Road Walking League works

  • Only AGN registered athletes qualify for league points.
  • A minimum number of 5 athletes that finish a race per club is used for purposes of the points calculation. Clubs that have less than 5 athletes that finish a race will default to 5. In multi-distance races, the number of athletes and points are combined. For example club “A” has 3 finishers and 9pts in the 10km and 3 finishers and 7pts in the 21km, then the total number of athletes is 6 and the total number of points is 16. Club “B” on the other hand has 3 finishers and 10pts in the 10km and none in the 21km, then their total number of athletes is 5 and their total number of points is 10.
  • The league points table appears below. This table allocates points to each athlete who finishes a race. The number of points is dependant on gender, age category, distance and finishing time. A minimum of 1 point is allocated to everyone whose name is on the official set of results.
  • The formula for the average points per club is:
Combined total number of points (all distances) / Total number of finishers (all distances and default to 5 if less than 5)

Once the average points have been calculated for each club, a sort is done, listing the clubs from most to least number of points. The club with the highest average points will then be allocated 50 league points, the next 49 points and so on down.

Points are allocated as follows:
